Medical travel to China for advanced treatments

We coordinate and accompany patients traveling to Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai and other Chinese cities for treatments not yet available in Mexico: proton and carbon-ion therapy, CAR-T cell therapies, new cancer drugs, gene therapies and brain implants. We also coordinate aesthetic medicine and surgery at accredited hospitals. Each case receives a personalized quote.

Cancer treatments

We look for options at hospitals across China that are not available in Mexico or are hard to access. Each option depends on your diagnosis and the hospital's review.

  • In operation

    Proton therapy

High-precision radiotherapy that concentrates the dose on the tumor and reduces radiation to healthy tissue. It is often used for childhood tumors, brain and head-and-neck tumors, and tumors near delicate organs.

As far as we could confirm, Mexico does not yet have an operating proton center. China has around ten; one in Guangzhou has been open since late 2024 and already treats patients from more than 20 countries, and a public center in Shenzhen completed its first clinical trial in 2026.

  • In operation

    Carbon-ion therapy

Radiotherapy with particles heavier than protons, which deposit more energy in the tumor. It is used for tumors that resist conventional radiotherapy and exists in very few countries.

In Shanghai, the proton and heavy-ion center has treated almost 8,900 patients since 2015, most of them with carbon ions. There is also a center in Wuwei, in northwest China.

  • Approved in China

    CAR-T cell therapies

A treatment that uses the patient's own immune cells, modified in a lab to recognize and attack cancer. China has several CAR-T therapies approved for lymphomas, leukemias and multiple myeloma.

In June 2026 China approved the world's first CAR-T for a solid tumor: advanced Claudin 18.2-positive gastric cancer. A hospital in Shanghai already offers it to international patients. Mexico has no commercial access to these therapies yet.

  • Approved in China

    New drugs for lung cancer

Ivonescimab is an antibody that blocks two signals the tumor uses (PD-1 and VEGF) at the same time. In August 2026 China approved it, with chemotherapy, as first-line treatment for advanced squamous lung cancer.

In the trial behind that approval it reduced the risk of death compared with standard immunotherapy plus chemotherapy. It is not yet approved in the United States or Europe.

  • In clinical trials

    Tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy (TIL)

Immune cells that already recognize the tumor are taken from it, multiplied in a lab and returned to the patient.

In China it is being studied in an advanced clinical trial for cervical cancer, and another trial for head and neck cancer has been authorized. Access is only possible if you meet the study criteria.

  • In clinical trials

    Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT)

Radiotherapy targeted at the cellular level: a boron drug builds up in tumor cells, which are then irradiated with neutrons.

It is being studied in Dongguan, between Shenzhen and Guangzhou, for recurrent head and neck tumors, and also in Xiamen. Access is only possible if you meet the study criteria.

  • Authorized use

Hong Kong medicines in southern China

Dozens of hospitals in the Greater Bay Area can use medicines and devices approved in Hong Kong that are not yet available in mainland China.

We check whether any of them applies to your diagnosis, and whether there is already an alternative at home, before suggesting the trip.

  • Authorized use

    International medicines in Hainan

The Boao Lecheng special medical zone, on Hainan island, can use medicines and devices approved in the United States, Europe or Japan that are not yet approved in China.

It can make it possible to combine a Chinese treatment with an international drug in the same trip. We assess it case by case.

  • Depends on the study

    Clinical trials

China is one of the countries with the most oncology clinical trials in the world. Some accept foreign patients.

We help you look for open studies for your type of cancer and prepare the paperwork to find out whether you qualify.

  • Available

    Specialist second opinion

A multidisciplinary team at a high-volume cancer center reviews your whole case and suggests options.

It can help you confirm a diagnosis or treatment plan, even if you finally decide to be treated at home.

Information reviewed in October 2026. Availability changes; we confirm it with the hospital for each case.

Other advanced treatments

Beyond cancer, China offers new options for some neurological, genetic, metabolic and autoimmune diseases.

  • Approved in China

    Brain-computer implant for paralysis

In March 2026 China approved the world's first brain implant for commercial use. It reads the intention to move in the brain and controls a robotic glove that helps grip objects.

It is indicated for people aged 18 to 60 with paralysis of arms and legs caused by a spinal cord injury in the neck. We confirm which hospitals offer it.

  • In clinical trials

    Brain-spine interface to walk again

Electrodes in the brain and spinal cord create a bridge that carries the command to move down to the legs.

In 2025, in Shanghai, the first patients with severe spinal cord injury were able to move their legs and take steps within about two weeks. This is early research with very few patients.

  • Approved in China

    Gene therapy for hemophilia B

A single infusion delivers a working copy of the clotting factor IX gene to the liver, so the body can make it on its own.

Approved in 2025 for adults with moderate or severe hemophilia B. We check whether an equivalent option exists in your country before suggesting the trip.

  • In clinical trials

Gene editing for thalassemia and sickle cell disease

A base-editing technique corrects the defect in the patient's own blood stem cells without cutting the DNA.

In a study published in 2026, all five thalassemia patients treated no longer needed transfusions. It has already been used in about 20 patients from China and other countries.

  • In clinical trials

Stem cell islets for type 1 diabetes

Insulin-producing islets grown in a lab from stem cells are transplanted.

In Shanghai and Tianjin, the first patients with type 1 diabetes started producing their own insulin again. These are very early studies with few patients and short follow-up.

  • In clinical trials

CAR-T for lupus and other autoimmune diseases

The same CAR-T technology is being studied to reset the immune system in severe lupus that does not respond to other treatments, and in other autoimmune diseases.

China leads many of these studies and some recruit patients in Shenzhen. Access is only possible within a clinical trial, if you meet the criteria.

Aesthetic medicine and surgery

China has a large aesthetic market, but also unlicensed clinics that the authorities are cracking down on. We only work with licensed hospitals and doctors.

  • Approved in China

    Injectable recombinant human collagen

China was the first country to develop and mass-produce recombinant humanized collagen for injection. It is used for wrinkles and to improve skin quality.

The first approval came in 2021, and by the end of 2025 five injectable products had been approved. We verify the brand and health registration of each product.

  • Available

    Complex plastic and reconstructive surgery

The plastic surgery department of a public hospital in Shanghai is ranked number one in China, with teams for craniofacial surgery, microsurgery, lymphedema, rhinoplasty and hair transplant.

It has had an international patient department since 2024. It is especially useful for complex or reconstructive cases.

  • Available

Aesthetic surgery and medicine at accredited hospitals

Face, nose, eyelid and body surgery, laser and injectable treatments, only at licensed hospitals and clinics.

Many of these procedures are already done very well in Mexico and the United States. If the trip is not worth it for you, we will tell you.

How it works

We are with you from the first conversation until you are back home.

  1. First conversation

You tell us about your case on WhatsApp: diagnosis, treatments you have received and what you are looking for.

  2. Medical records and review

We gather your medical records (clinical summary, pathology and imaging), translate them and send them to the right hospitals in China for review.

  3. Proposal and quote

The hospital tells you whether you are a candidate, which treatment it proposes and its estimated cost. We give you a written quote for the coordination.

  4. Trip preparation

We guide you through the visa and arrange flights, lodging near the hospital and transfers.

  5. Support in China

We go with you to appointments and paperwork with a Chinese interpreter, and give daily support to you and your companion.

  6. Return and follow-up

You come home with your translated records so your doctor can continue your follow-up.

Where the treatments are

The right hospital depends on your diagnosis. We explain the options in each city and you decide.

  • Shenzhen and Guangzhou

Proton therapy centers, high-volume cancer centers, CAR-T studies and hospitals that can use medicines approved in Hong Kong.

  • Shanghai

Carbon-ion and proton therapy, CAR-T for solid tumors, brain-spine interfaces, islets for diabetes and the country's top-ranked plastic surgery department.

  • Hainan (Boao Lecheng)

A special medical zone where medicines and devices approved in the United States, Europe or Japan can be used.

  • Other cities

Depending on the treatment: Wuwei (carbon ions), Dongguan and Xiamen (BNCT) or Tianjin (islets for diabetes).

Costs

This is a paid program, separate from our social programs. It has two parts: the treatment cost, set by the hospital, and CAREFORLIFE's coordination and support fee, which we give you in writing before we start.

Flights, visa, lodging and meals for you and your companion are additional.

Before you decide

  • We are not a hospital and do not provide medical consultations. Diagnosis and treatment are decided by the hospital's medical team.
  • We do not guarantee results. No treatment works the same for everyone.
  • Some options only exist within clinical trials and require meeting criteria.
  • We recommend making the decision together with your own doctor.
  • For aesthetic procedures we only work with licensed hospitals and doctors.
  • We do not coordinate treatments without health approval outside a registered clinical trial, nor organ transplants.

Questions about medical travel

If you have another question, message us on WhatsApp.

Do I need a visa to travel to China?

Most likely yes. Mexican passport holders currently need a visa for a stay in China, and the 240-hour visa-free transit only applies when traveling on to a third country. Rules differ by nationality, so we check your case and guide you through the process.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the treatment and the hospital. The hospital sets the medical cost; CAREFORLIFE's coordination and support are quoted separately and in writing. Flights, visa, lodging and meals are additional.

How long do I need to stay?

A review can take a few days. Treatments such as proton therapy or CAR-T usually take several weeks. The hospital will give you an estimate for your case.

Can I travel with a family member?

Yes, and we recommend it. We arrange the trip and lodging for both of you.

What documents do I need to start?

A recent clinical summary, the pathology report, your imaging studies (CT, MRI or PET, ideally with the images) and the list of treatments you have already received.

Do you also coordinate aesthetic treatments?

Yes, only at licensed hospitals and clinics. If the procedure you want is already done well where you live, we will tell you so you can decide whether the trip is worth it.

Do you guarantee the treatment will work?

No. No treatment works the same for everyone. The hospital's medical team decides whether you are a candidate and explains the benefits and risks.

Tell us about your case

We reply on WhatsApp and tell you which documents we need to start the review.
